How to Report a Pothole in St Albans

Although we’ve noticed that several areas of roads have had their potholes dealt with recently, we’ve also heard some awful stories about expensive damage to cars being caused by potholes in the roads around St Albans.  So, as we’re helpful chaps, here’s what to do if you need to report a pothole in St Albans.

First of all, you do need to know exactly where the offending pothole is – the Highways team need as much information as possible so they know where to come to fix it.  Make sure you know the road name, ideally whereabouts in the road it is etc – you are going to have to click on a map to identify the problem for them.

 Pothole(s)

Visit the Highway Fault Reporting Site on the hertsdirect website.  It will take you through the process step by step and give you a reference number so you can (if you so wish) track the progress of the ‘fault’.

This is a straightforward guide to how the reporting process works from the council.  By clicking on the link it will open the document in pdf format – you will need Adobe Reader which you can download by clicking here

You can also use that site (and guide) to report other roadway problems but if there is a direct threat to life please call the Police.

If we all report potholes as we find them, hopefully the Highways team will be able to get out and fix them before they cause more damage to our cars – don’t assume that someone else will do it!

Hopefully the warmer weather coming up will see fewer potholes appearing but if we do get any rain the ones that are already there may well get worse – drive carefully and do get in touch if there’s anything we can help with.
