How To Report Missing Road Markings in Hertfordshire

Right, let’s just make this clear – we’re not talking about road markings that have wandered off for a spot of shopping or otherwise – we’re talking about how to report missing road markings that have worn out, been washed away, not been replaced after resurfacing and that sort of thing.  Roads in St Albans (and Hertfordshire) are having the major issues fixed as fast as the council can do (or afford) them, but the road markings are, unless there is threat to life, a lower priority.

So – what can you do if you want the white lines back at junctions, the double yellows repainted or a no entry sign returned to its rightful place on the road?

Firstly, you have to realise that there is a system of prioritising involved – if you live in a residential cul-de-sac your request will be a lower priority than something on an A road or something that is a risk to life.

Secondly – to some extent, it depends on how much money is available – line painting comes below pothole repairs.

However – with elections rapidly approaching, now is the time to nag your local councillors when they knock on the door asking who you’re going to be voting for this year.  If it’s a particular problem in your road, try talking to your neighbours and working together to make sure that the political candidates know this is a real issue to you.

You can also report problems directly to Hertfordshire Highways using this link (this can also be used for potholes, street lighting issues etc) – or you can use the new service – Fix My Street (click on the image below to get to the site)
FixMyStreet - report, view or discuss local problems
We’d be interested in knowing how you get on if you use this site – it seems to be encouraging community involvement in making where we live a nicer place – and that should be a good thing.

So – if you need to report missing road markings, our advice is not to wait until someone does it for you – it’s a quick and simple process online and will get your concerns on the list.
