Do I Need a Digital Radio For My Car?

Well do you?  We’re fans of the digital radio here at Verulam Autos – the sound quality and the choice of stations are both excellent, but if you don’t have a digital radio fitted as standard, is it worth upgrading?

Digital Radio Coverage

As we’ve said already, upgrading to a digital radio brings better sound quality and a far wider choice of stations.  There is pretty much something for the entire family to listen to on there – whether it’s Fun Kids (to avoid listening to the same kids CD over and over and over again), Radio 5 Sports Extra (for extra coverage of pretty much all things sporty), Planet Rock (for you hard core rockers) or your favourite commercial radio station, it’s all there.   Great.

The coverage is good around here too (unless you get stuck at the lights on Holywell Hill…) so your digital radio will be able to pick up all of the London stations.  If you travel further afield (especially towards the coast) you may find the coverage becomes more patchy.  If you do buy a digital radio for your car, it’s worth finding one that will automatically re-tune to the FM version of the station if it goes out of digital range.

Which Digital Radio should I choose for my car?

There are many digital radios on the market at a variety of price points.  Our main advice is to read the reviews – any store will make their offers look amazing but find out what other people really think!

Do I need anything else to fit my Digital Radio?

Also research what ‘extras’ you will need with that Digital Radio – new front plates for the radio, extra wiring, new harness and an aerial are on that list.  Unless you’re electrically inclined (and we suspect then you’ll have done this already) you will also need to pay for your radio to be fitted.

We hope that gives you the information you need to make the decision as to whether to fit a Digital Radio in your car – let us know how you get on!
